It Is Almost That Time of Year Again

ImageAs we approach that time of year where the dark nights are drawing-in and the clocks are about to go back (on October 25), we’re urging residents to ensure they have home security measures in place.
As the darker evenings take hold, we are urging people to keep windows and doors locked and to leave lights on when they are out, perhaps by using timers or sensors.

Dene Tinker, Designing out Crime Officer, said: “This year has been particularly difficult for a lot of people, and the last thing we want to see is anyone become a victim of burglary.

“Please ensure you have basic home security measures in place to help to deter thieves.

“There are lots of simple and inexpensive things you can do such as using a light timer or a Dusk to Dawn LED Bulb with sensor. A home in darkness could be an invitation to a burglar. They can tell there is no one home and it gives them the green light to break-in. By using timer switches and energy saving light bulbs gives the impression someone is at home.

“We will be stepping up evening patrols as a further deterrent to burglars and thieves. Your neighbourhood officers will also be speaking to businesses and residents to offer additional advice about how to ensure premises and property is kept secure.

“If you see any suspicious behaviour we would urge you to contact us immediately on 101 or 999 in an emergency. Don’t leave it a few days; ring us as soon as possible because that gives us the greatest chance of making an arrest or preventing a crime taking place.”

For further burglary prevention advice, please speak to your local neighbourhood policing team.
