HOLOCAUST MEMORIAL DAY – ROTHERHAM

Holocaust Memorial Day Service

On a bright but very cold January afternoon many veterans and their partners braved the bitterly cold wind to join the service to commemorate Holocaust Memorial Day 2019. The event was held in All Saints Square and the turnout has increased each year.  This, the fourth year when the national theme is ‘Torn from Home’, which will be demonstrated through readings, music and speeches.  The veterans particularly enjoyed the songs performed by St Ann’s Junior and Infant school, and a specially composed song, sang and performed by Nic Harding.

The Leader of Rotherham Council, Cllr Chris Read added: “Building a strong and supportive community where no-one is left behind is at the heart of the council’s vision for the borough.  The sombre events to mark Holocaust Memorial Day give us all a chance to reflect on how important community is, and how we must continue to stand together against those who seek to divide us.”

Lt Col McPherson was pleased to represent the MCVC in the civic party.
