Join our Strategic Advisory Group We are looking for two new members of Healthwatch Sheffield’s Strategic Advisory Group. Group members are volunteers who contribute to discussions which shape our work – helping us decide on our direction, and ensuring that we’re hearing from a wide range of people. Volunteers bring a huge range of experience to the team – from carers, to people who’ve worked in the NHS, people working in the voluntary sector, and people with lived experience of health conditions. We hope to strengthen the Group even more by recruiting people from more diverse communities, including BAME communities. Applications are open until 11th January 2021. If you’re a not-for-profit, voluntary, or community group in Sheffield, we’d like you to help us hear from the people you work with: What does a good health or social care service look like? What barriers do people face when trying to accessing care? What could services do to better meet people’s specific needs? Grants of £500-£1000 are available. Lots of people have shared their stories with us over the last few months – make sure you read the latest findings. Carers We’ve spoken to carers about their experiences of visiting GPs. We found that continuity of care, and having a GP who is able to be flexible and work around their caring role is so important, but this doesn’t always happen. Read the report.  Covid-19 We’ve heard from people about how the Covid-19 pandemic has affected them. We found some areas where services changes have been really helpful for people (like telephone appointments), but people also told us about things they’re struggling with, and how hard they found keeping up with information. Visiting care homes We published the findings from a John’s Campaign survey – people across Sheffield have told us about their experiences of visiting a loved one in a care home in November. Lots of people still haven’t been able to visit. Read the briefing. Issues from November We’ve produced our regular round up of the key issues we’ve heard this month – from inpatient mental health care, Deaf people’s access to information, and accessing urgent dental care.
