Royal British Legion Honour Walk for the Battle of the Somme 100

On Friday 1st July 2016 Sarah-Jane Hackett and a few colleagues from the Royal British Legion will be carrying out a Honour Walk from Doncaster to Sheffield to mark the Centenary of the Battle of the Somme which resulted in over one million casualties on all sides throughout the 141 day battle.

Sarah and the team of up to 12 people, including the Poppyman collecting money for the Poppy Appeal will be starting at 8.30am in Doncaster and taking the following route:

8.30am – Doncaster wreath laying at the Cenotaph on Bennetthorpe, move to Hall Gate along Cleveland Street, across Trafford Way on to the A630 towards Conisbrough, through Balby & Warmsworth, carrying along Sheffield Road and entering Conisbrough approx 10.30am

10.30am – Conisbrough wreath laying at the Cenotaph on Low Road, walk up Castle Hill to Church Street, onto Park Road, Poplar Grove and back onto A630 towards Rotherham, passing through Hooton Roberts, Thrybergh, Dalton to Doncaster Road towards Clifton Park, arriving at Cenotaph about 1pm.

1pm – Rotherham wreath laying at Cenotaph, through Town Centre to Westgate and Sheffield Road A6178, through Templeborough and Tinsley, Pass Meadowhall to Atercliffe Common joining A6109 to Wicker arriving about 3.30pm.

3.30pm – Sheffield Haymarket to High Street, Fargate to Barkers Pool for wreath laying at the War Memorial.
